Pakistan is home to several natural and man made lakes and reservoirs.


The largest lake in Pakistan is the Manchar Lake, which is also the largest lake in South Asia. The lake is spread over an area of over 100 square miles. The highest lake in Pakistan is the Rush Lake, which is also the 25th highest lake is the world at an altitude of over 4,700 meters. The second highest lake in Pakistan is the Karombar Lake, which at an altitude of 4,272 meters, is the 31st highest lake in the world.( source:  Wikipedia)


This lake is located between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit–Baltistan. The length of the lake is 3.9 kilometers , width is 2 km and, average depth is 52 meters .

Ansoo  Lake:

Ansoo Lake is a high-altitude lake in the Kaghan Valley in the Mansehra District of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It can be reached by a difficult trek from Saiful Mulook Lake and requires physical and mental fitness. The name “Ansoo” comes from its tear-like shape (the Urdu word Ansoo means teardrop). The lake is said to have been discovered in 1993 by Pakistan Air Force pilots who were flying low above the area. Earlier, the lake was not even known to the locals. 

Saiful  Mulook Lake

Lake Saif-ul-Malook is a lake located at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley near Naran. It is in the north east of Mansehra District in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. A fairy tale called Saif-ul-Malook, written by the famous sufi poet Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, is associated with the lake. It is the story of prince of Persia who fell in love with a fairy princess at the lake. The impact of the lake beauty is of such extent that people believe that fairies come down to lake in full moon. 

Keenjhar Lake:

16 miles from Thatta on left side is located the Keenjhar Lake, also called Kalri Lake. This is also a freshwater lake. It plays a substantial ecological role in the functioning of the Indus River basin. The lake is an internationally important area for breeding, staging and wintering water birds, supporting as many as 140,000 birds,. The lake is a major source of drinking water for Karachi .

The lake is also called Kalri Lake and is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Pakistan. TheSindhi legend of Noori Jam Tamachi took place around the lake, and to this day there is a shrine in the middle of the lake marking Noor's grave.

Lake Manchar is the largest freshwater lake in Pakistan and one of the largest in Asia. It is located west of the Indus River in Sindh.
