A £3.2m supercomputer, one of the most powerful in the UK, has been installed at the University of Southampton.

The Iridis4 has 12,200 processors, each of which can perform a trillion calculations per second - a measurement referred to as a "teraflop".

The IBM machine also has a million gigabytes of disk space and 50 terabytes of memory.

Home computers generally have between 500GB and 2TB of disc space and about 4GB to 6GB of memory.

There are 1,024 gigabytes in a terabyte.

The university said the new machine would allow academics to work on more projects at faster speeds.

Pro vice-chancellor Prof Philip Nelson said: "Staying ahead of the game in high performance computing [HPC] is vital to help the university stay competitive.

"Simulation and computation enabled by HPC are recognised globally as the third pillar of modern research and this investment will ensure we remain world leaders in this field."

Iridis4 will be used for a range of research, including engineering, archaeology and medicine, as well as computer science.

The world's most powerful computer is China's Tianhe-2, which can perform 33,860 trillion calculations per second.

The university said its new computer ranked among the top 10 in the UK.

The most powerful is at the Science and Technology Facilities Council in Warrington.

A China-based supercomputer has leapfrogged rivals to be named the world's most powerful system.

Tianhe-2, developed by the government-run National University of Defence Technology, topped  of the fastest 500 supercomputers, (international researchers).

They said the news was a "surprise" since the system had not been expected to be ready until 2015.

China last held the top rank between November 2010 and June 2011.

According to the list, the US has the world's second and third fastest supercomputers, Titan and Sequoia, while Japan's K computer drops to fourth spot.

Unique features

According to the Linpack benchmark, Tianhe-2 - meaning Milky Way-2 - operates at 33.86 petaflop/sec, the equivalent of 33,860 trillion calculations per second.

The benchmark measures real-world performance - but in theory the machine can boost  to a "peak performance" of 54.9 petaflop/sec.

The project was sponsored by the Chinese government's 863 High Technology Programme - an effort to make the country's hi-tech industries more competitive and less dependent on overseas rivals.

It has said it intends to install the equipment at the National Supercomputer Centre in Guangzhou, based in the country's south-eastern Guandong province, where it will be offered as a "research and education" resource to southern China.

The machine uses a total of 3.12 million processor cores, using Intel's Ivy Bridge and Xeon Phi chips to carry out its calculations.

However, the University of Tennessee's Jack Dongarra - a member of the Top 500 list team who visited the project in May - noted that many of its features were developed in China and are unique.   (Source of blog:   BBC and other News and science papers)

Pakistan is home to several natural and man made lakes and reservoirs.

Manchar Lake

The largest lake in Pakistan is the Manchar Lake, which is also the largest lake in South Asia. The lake is spread over an area of over 100 square miles. The highest lake in Pakistan is the Rush Lake, which is also the 25th highest lake is the world at an altitude of over 4,700 meters. The second highest lake in Pakistan is the Karombar Lake, which at an altitude of 4,272 meters, is the 31st highest lake in the world.^{( source:  Wikipedia)}

This lake is located between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit–Baltistan. The length of the lake is 3.9 kilometers , width is 2 km and, average depth is 52 meters .

Ansoo  Lake:

Ansoo Lake is a high-altitude lake in the Kaghan Valley in the Mansehra District of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It can be reached by a difficult trek from Saiful Mulook Lake and requires physical and mental fitness. The name “Ansoo” comes from its tear-like shape (the Urdu word Ansoo means teardrop). The lake is said to have been discovered in 1993 by Pakistan Air Force pilots who were flying low above the area. Earlier, the lake was not even known to the locals. 

Saiful  Mulook Lake

Lake Saif-ul-Malook is a lake located at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley near Naran. It is in the north east of Mansehra District in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. A fairy tale called Saif-ul-Malook, written by the famous sufi poet Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, is associated with the lake. It is the story of prince of Persia who fell in love with a fairy princess at the lake. The impact of the lake beauty is of such extent that people believe that fairies come down to lake in full moon. 

Keenjhar Lake:

16 miles from Thatta on left side is located the Keenjhar Lake, also called Kalri Lake. This is also a freshwater lake. It plays a substantial ecological role in the functioning of the Indus River basin. The lake is an internationally important area for breeding, staging and wintering water birds, supporting as many as 140,000 birds,. The lake is a major source of drinking water for Karachi .

Dudipatsar Lake	3,800 metres (12,500 ft)	The lake lies in the extreme north of Kaghan Valley at a height of 3,800 metres (12,500 ft). The term dudi in Urdu means white and sarmeans lake.
Karambar Lake	4,272 metres (14,016 ft)	Karambar Lake is the 31st highest lakes in the world . The approximate length of the lake is 3.9 km, width is 2 km and, average depth is 52m.
Keenjhar Lake	21 metres (69 ft)	The lake is also called Kalri Lake and is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Pakistan. TheSindhi legend of Noori Jam Tamachi took place around the lake, and to this day there is a shrine in the middle of the lake marking Noor's grave.
Kundol Lake	2,743 metres (8,999 ft)	This lake is often confused with Mahodand Lake.
Lower Kachura Lake	2,500 metres (8,200 ft)	The lake is also known as Shangrila Lake and is located at a drive of about 20 minutes from Skardu town. Shangrila was named after a book titled Lost Horizon by James Hilton.Shangri-la is a Chinese word meaning "Heaven on earth".
Lulusar Lake	3,410 metres (11,190 ft)	The lake is the main source of the Kunhar River and has a baby lake beside it. The word "sar" means "top or peak" in Pashto.
Mahodand Lake	9,400 feet (2,900 m)	The lake is located 40 km from Kalam Valleyin the valley of Ushu.
Manchar Lake	34 metres (112 ft)	Lake Manchar is the largest freshwater lake in Pakistan and one of the largest in Asia. It is located west of the Indus River in Sindh. The area of the lake fluctuates with the seasons from as little as 350 km² to 520 km². The lake collects water from numerous small streams in the Kirthar Mountains and empties into theIndus River.
Saiful Muluk	3,224 metres (10,577 ft)	The lake is located in the northern end ofKaghan Valley. The lake has total surface area of over 2.5 square kilometer. The lake is famous for its fairytale of Saiful Maluk

First Steps  for Everyone

                Either before or during the process of setting up your online business, you will need a domain name. Because most of the “good ones” are already taken, you will probably need to be creative in giving your online presence a catch name. For example, “My Website” is long since off the table. However, you can add to the basic site name with dashes, unique identifiers, or even calls-to-action:

o    My-Beyond-Awesome-Website or My-Cool Jewels-Website may be available. Similarly, BuyMyBanglesToday.com could be another direction: it not only has a unique name, when give it out, you’re putting them in the frame of mind to buy.

o    Note that most web hosting sites have a method for securing domain names. Bear in mind that whether you secure a domain name from your host or from a traditional domain registrar such as Network Solutions, the results are identical—the primary difference is price, so shop and compare before signing on the dotted line.

2.      Keep it keyword-rich.

                          One of the things that will make your business successful is if people can find you. Most people will pull up Google or Bing, and perform a search such "plumber, Portland" or "Graphic designer, industrial design." Whatever it is you specialize in, be sure that the copy on your site reflects that as often and as varied as possible.

3.    Be social.                   Whatever your business, whatever your venue, keeping your name in the the air is key to internet success. Have a business account on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. If your business is graphically oriented, have accounts on Flickr and Tumblr as well. Whenever there is news of any kind—a new contract, a new page, a new entry, a new photo—cross-post it to all your social media sites.
